WHY WE SHARE THE MINISTRY OF MATTHEW 25 MINISTRIES
In developing countries, medicines—when actually obtainable—are often dispensed into hands, pockets, leaves or any other available container. Matthew 25 Ministries accepts donations of basic medical supplies such as empty pill bottles to help improve health care quality in developing nations. Donations of clean, unlabeled pill bottles help the poorest of the poor in many ways: Medicine can be distributed in sterile containers. Pill bottles that are not appropriate for shipping are recycled for cash that goes towards Matthew 25:Ministries’ programs.
This plastic recycling program keeps thousands of bottles out of landfills each year. Placing a nickel, dime or quarter in each pill bottle helps with shipping costs to send the bottles to developing countries.
Matthew 25: Ministries accepts the following types of empty pill bottles:
Prescription pill bottles
Large and small pill bottles
Pill bottles with and without child resistant caps
Over-the-counter pill bottles.
You can help improve the quality of health care in hospitals and health clinics in developing countries by saving and donating basic medical supplies such as pill bottles.
Please advise if you are still accepting empty pill bottles. I understand they should have no labels.
Thanks
Barbara

Thank you for your interest in the pill bottle program. Our church collects a number of pill bottles which we transport to Ohio for this ministry. Matthew 25: Ministries is an international humanitarian aid and disaster relief organization helping more than 20 million people in need each year. Here are the details for the pill bottle ministry:
Matthew 25: Ministries accepts donations of empty plastic pill bottles for inclusion in shipments of medical supplies and for shredding and recycling. Our pill bottle program fulfills the dual needs of improving medical care in developing countries and caring for our environment.
Acceptable collection items include:
Prescription and over-the-counter pill bottles
Large and small pill bottles
Pill Bottles with and without secure caps (child resistant)
Pill bottles that are not appropriate to include with shipments of medical supplies are recycled for cash that goes towards Matthew 25: Ministries’ programs. If you wish to prepare bottles for shipment rather than recycling, please adhere to the following guidelines:
Bottles included in shipments of medical supplies must have an all plastic lid.
Sort bottles by color and type.
Remove labels, leaving no glue or residue.
Wash bottles in very hot water and dish soap.
Rinse and dry thoroughly.
Replace lids on clean, dried bottles.
Place clean, recapped bottles in large ziplock bags marked “Clean Bottles.” These will be blended with medical supplies.
Please send pill bottles DIRECTLY to:

What is the best way to remove the labels, gum etc.?
Apply vegetable oil to the area and let it soak in for a couple of hours.
Use a warm (not hot) hair dryer to soften the glue, and wipe the residue off.
Use a hot soapy water and cloth for a final clean.
Hi. Does it matter if the cap has a business name or logo on it? I used to give them to my vets or the animals shelters, but they can no long take any that have the name of a pharmacy on it. Didn’t know if that matters with international missions. Thanks.
Sorry for the delay Donna! they do accept them…those that can’t be reused will be recycled.

I have come into possession of a case of brand new never used empty amber pill containers. There are 270 in a case. We are an organ transplant support group that was collecting them for another non profit but no longer needs them. Do you have such a need?
Are you local to Collegeville?
Rev Eva Johnson
I have quite a few bottles but can’t remove the labels? Do you have any suggestions? The kind we used to get were the orange plastic and the labels came off easily but most of these are white and I haven’t had any luck removing the labels. I belong to a woman’s group that could probably supply a lot more if we could remove the labels!
Thank you!
Hi Claudia,
You can try heating the label with a hair dryer and then peeling off.
Thank you for supporting the ministry!

Try putting hot water inside the bottle the hot water heats the glue and the label should peel right off, this also works on the orange prescription bottles. don’t wait to long to peel it doesn’t take long 30 seconds, if it fails to work dump water and add more wait 30 seconds a try to peel the label.
Thanks, Theresa!

are you still receiving? We were collecting pill bottles for a different group who is no longer receiving. I could mail them to you.
Is it alright if some of them have things hand written on the caps? I’m trying to strike out the names of the meds they wrote on the caps but they still somewhat show through.
Hi:
I have been collecting Rx bottles at work for an organization that is no longer accepting donations. Before I send them I want to make sure you want a good size box of them. How are they used so I can let my staff know. I work at an Elementary School in Shawboro, NC. Thank you.
We transport the pill bottles to Ohio. You can send directly to them. Please check their website m25m.org. That will provide you with the information you request. Blessings, Rev Eva Johnson

I have always disliked throwing them away. Now I will save them and send them on to good use.
Thanks!! Blessings,

I have been putting my pill bottles in boilng water to get the labels off, but I cant get all the glue off. Is that okay? I was originally saving them for the Malawi project but their website states they have stopped accepting them. Are you currently still accepting them?
Brittany,
Matthew25 Ministries has an ongoing acceptance program for pill bottles. Hint- using a hair dryer to soften the glue on the labels helps to peel them off. and then “Goo Gone” or rubbing alcohol should get the residue off. Blessings,
Pastor Eva

Are you still collecting empty prescription bottles? The UMW at my church has been collecting them for the Malawi project but they have been overwhelmed and are no longer accepting them. My church would still like to collect them if you or any one you wants them. It is a good project.
Hi Betty,
We recommend you send your pill bottles directly to Matthew25Ministries at the address listed on our website. Blessings on your ministry efforts! Pastor Eva
Until what date will you be collecting pill bottles?
Hi Becky
This is an ongoing project. If you have a small number of pill bottles and are local to our church, you are welcome to drop them off. Otherwise please follow the directions on the website for sending them directly to Matthew25Ministries. Blessings, Pastor Eva
My name is Brad. I live outside Chicago. I am interested in doing this. I have had some health issues and I collect all my empty bottles. I have myself about 50 or so. I am thinking about starting something here like this and than ship them to you. I am disabled from an injury in 2009 and money myself is very tight and struggling so the shipping is what I am concerned about the price but I can find a way to ship them there. Even if I cant collect from others, I would ship mine. What I wonder though is where you ship them to? I know I sponsor 6 children around the world. 1 in Mexico and 5 in the Philippines and also a volunteer for Make A Wish Illinois. But I am just curious where you send them to or which countries. I ask because I have been working volunteer with the Philippines for many years and I know how bad they need things like this also. Thank you and will send them either way but hoping to get many more first.
Is anyone available to receive a drop off on Saturdays? We are traveling through Ohio on March 26th & might be able to drop off a box instead of shipping one.
Gail,
Check the m25m.org website for a phone number to see if they are open on Saturday
Blessings,
Rev Eva Johnson

Removing labels: I apply a little vegetable oil to mosten the label and 24 hours later the label peels right off, glue and all. A little stickiness remaining washes right off with dish soap. My druggist often puts plastic tape over the label and this has to be peeled off first.
Thanks Rene!

Hello, my name is Rachel. I work as a pharmacy tech in Irving Tx. Just recently we had to switch wholesalers from whom we get our medicines and supplies through. Because of this , we have alot of unused prescription bottles. My pharmacist wanted me to throw them away. I asked him if I could find a charity that can use them. He told me that would be fine, for us to donate. Your site was the first one to pull up in google. So I am asking if you are still needing donations. Some bottles do not have tops but some do. Please let me know if you are interested. Thank You, Rachel

My daughter was collecting pill bottles for another organization that is no longer accepting them. We have over a dozen shipping boxes full of clean bottles to sent somewhere. Any ideas on low cost shipping options? She is doing this for her Girl Scout Silver Award and is eager to find a place for the bottles!
Wendy,
Sometimes UPS is less expensive than US Postal Service depending on the size of the box. COmbining bottles into one or two bigger boxes might work. Thank you for your interest in supporting the pill bottle ministry!

Our garden club here in Virginia is committed to environmental stewardship and has previously donated a large carton of pill bottles to another organization which is no longer collecting them. We just heard about your ministry and would like to donate what we have to the Matthew 25 Ministries. Can you please advise us about preparing the bottles. Does all the residue from the label need to be removed? Peace.
Thank you for your interest in environmental stewardship! It is preferred that the pill bottles be label free for convenience in sending them on to other countries and to protect the privacy of those who donate the pill bottles.

Labels and residue can be removed by:
Apply vegetable oil to the area and let it soak in for a couple of hours.
Use a warm (not hot) hair dryer to soften the glue, and wipe the residue off.
Use a hot soapy water and cloth for a final clean.
Unfortunately I had my box sealed with the Empty pill bottles before I saw that you suggested that a coin or two be placed in the pill bottles to help with postage. But I would suggest that coins are not placed in the empty pill bottles because the coins would be extremely “dirty” from all the handling over the years. I will send a separate check, since my box has already been sealed shut, to help assist with postage. Thanks, Judy
Thank you and many blessings,
Rev Eva Johnson
Are you interesting in glass dropper bottles? They are clean and free of labels and residue. They are small and clear glass.
Thank you but we cannot accept any glass items.
W old toy also like the little charcoal packets that sometimes come inside bottles to help with moisture? Thanks

Hi,
My husband is diabetic and uses those strips to check his blood sugar level often.
They come in small black containers like the film canisters from long ago.
Do you accept them also?
Colleen

Hi. I’m having a hard time getting the stickiness off of the orange bottles. Can I send some labels along with them? That way the stickiness could be covered up and the doctors and health care workers overseas might like to write instructions on them. The bottles were all in boiling water so they are otherwise clean. Thanks!
Thank you for your interest.

A friend recently asked me if knew of a ministry that collected pill bottles. So glad to find you do. Are you located anywhere near East Kemper Rd, near A Childs Hope Ministry?
Thank You

What a wonderful ministry. When we heard about it this summer we immediately started collecting bottles. I am sending a box of 300 and our Christian Women’s Fellowship have decided to make this an ongoing project. I love that it is helping humanity and ecology at the same time, and that it is a ministry that anyone, regardless of their position in life can participate. Thank you for your service.
Emily,
Thank you for your participation in the ministry and for being a blessing to both others and the earth.
Pastor Eva

Was wondering if you also take plastic spice bottles.
Only the medicine bottles need the labels removed. Any other clean plastic bottle can be sent for their recycling program.
Blessings,
Rev Eva Johnson
I have a lot of clean bottles, however I can’t get the sticky part off after removing the label (even after soaking for a long time in hot soapy water). Any suggestions? Can I still send them?
Hi Lizzy,
Often rubbing alcohol or a product called ‘Goo Gone” will remove the sticky residue. You can still send them but they will be recycled rather than going into medical kits.
Blessings,
Rev Eva Johnson
Should I be sterilizing or cleaning the pill containers some way? Or do I just send them to you and you sterilize them? Seems like if I clean them…..you would still need to do it to be sure. Confused??????
Hi Barbara

I have been collecting pill bottles for a while. I also have friends at the local Senior Center collecting (now there’s a good source for empty bottles!!) as well as at my American Legion post. It’s always bothered me that these go into land fill – I feel so much better knowing they can be put to good use. I also include the containers from my diabetes test strips – they have a good catching lid that doesn’t easily “pop” open – I use them to store sewing notions, but also to carry my meds when I’m going out.
Thank you for your comment!
Matthew 25 Ministries will appreciate your donations. Get all the information on their website m25m.org.
Many blessings,

There’s several of us here in Hawaii who’ve been collecting pill bottles trying to figure out what to do with them my problem is I’m on SSI and don’t have a big income how is the cheapest way I can send all these I probably have a small garbage bag maybe one and a half so I’m trying to figure out how to get them to you because we don’t want to use them in our landfills thank you so much for your service
Hi Vicky
I imagine shipping could be expensive to send the bottles to Cincinnati. I am wondering if you know someone who is coming to the mainland who might bring them and ship from within the contiguous 48. Or perhaps if there are several people you could share the expense. If the cost far outweighs the value of sending them then look for a recycling program local to you. That will keep them out of the landfill!
If you have questions you can contact M25M at 513-793-6256 or check out their website at m25m.org
Are you still accepting label-free bottles?

If they are small vitamin bottles, do those labels have to be removed too? I’m thinking you can just label over top of them. (my personal prescriptions of course will be clean and label free!!)
Thanks for your inquiry.
Small vitamin bottles will be recycled to fund sending the pill bottles to overseas areas.
Blessings,
Evansburg UMC

I have a ton of bottles but I can’t get the stickiness off of them and I hate to think of that many bottles just being sent for recycling. I saw someone above me had the same problem and was willing to put a blank label just to cover the sticky film. Could that or even clear tape be put on it to cover the sticky? I never saw an answer to that. Other than the film on the outside they have been totally cleaned. I will wrap them myself.

I have many pill bottles that I am willing to clean and send but I see you do not want ones with child proof caps. All of mine require you push down and then turn to open.
